now. that's a look at the morning commute, back to you. >> thank you. >> new from overnight, a pedestrian hit and killed in milwaukee. it happened around 10:00 last night near 91st and appleton. police tell wisn 12 news several people called 911 saying they saw a woman get hit by a vehicle. that vehicle is described as a small black suv. anyone who knows what happened or where the suv is, is asked to call police. >> looking ahead, this weekend milwaukee will honor a little mike anderson is live at the police headquarters where the search for the child's killer continues. good morning, mike. >> good morning, tim. it has been more than three months since jenkins was shot in a home. while the police continue to search for the killer, the community is planning a way to remember her.

happened on may 5. 40 shots were fired outside of the home. multiple rounds went into the home and hit the little girl. since then the friends and family held peace marches in the neighborhood and now they are building a peace garden and hope it is a safe place for the kids to spend time. meanwhile a reward is offered, $65,000, for information leading to an arrest. reporting live mike anderson "12 news this morning." >> thank you, mike. >> right now, an investigation is underway into a wisconsin veteran's suicide. 33-year-old brandon ketchum from wisconsin dells killed himself last month after a va psychiatrist reportedly refused to admit him for in-patient treatment. this happened at the va center in iowa city. this morning, the va inspector general is reviewing the case to determine if the va is at fault for ketchum's death.

donald trump's running mate mike pence stopped in milwaukee. this came just one day after a new poll from the marquette law school showed trump losing ground with wisconsin voters. wisn 12 news asked pence about those polls. he told us that trump's campaign isn't worried. >> well, it's a long time 'til election day. it's still very early in this election cycle. you're going to see the polls ebb and flow, but i think what's going to carry the d a message for how we make america strong again at home and abroad. i mean donald trump is committed to rebuilding our military. to having america standing strong on the world stage again. >> during pence's speech in downtown milwaukee, several protesters interrupted. they were removed from the

tim,kaine is coming to wisconsin on monday. >> later today, a filmmaker takes on the tobacco industry in milwaukee. the film looks at the relationship between tobacco companies and milwaukee's african american community. lincoln mondy will be at the saint mark ame church tonight presenting his project called "black lives, black lungs." mondy says african americans are more likely to suffer from tobacco related diseases. >> new from overnight, people are waking up on milwaukee's streets right now in an effort to students. a small group of activists spent the night and morning outside near mlk and north. they're collecting money and school supplies for milwaukee students in need. we talked to organizers early this morning about why they want to help. >> so many times teachers have to pay out of their own pocket to buy supplies for students and everything and there's a lot of parents who can't afford supplies.

>> welcome back to "12 news this morning." starting the day with mainly cloudy skies in southeast wisconsin. a few showers and storms overnight. all that is the left a couple of sprinkles and a handful of light showers in the southern part of the state. we are watching for the showers and storms developing in iowa and southwestco arriving to us in the afternoon and evening. outside of the weather window, mostly cloudy. 77 degrees. look at how sticky it is out there. dew .74. it is extremely humid for the day. fiemly for the weekend, the number is going to drop. there is a flash flood watch in effect through mid night. overall the rain is beneficial

we have a few more showers and storms on the way. down in racine mainly cloudy at this time. we stay on the tropical feeling side. a couple of spotty showers linger on the dopplar 12 network. we have thunderstorms flaring up. some areas may pick up a couple of inches of rain. half inch, we are doing things right here. we talk about the weekend forecast coming up. matt? >> pavement is wet out there. things are looking pretty good.

celebrating family in a big way is a way of life, and their secret is getting out. wisn 12 news' nigel robertson is at rio's olympic park with an inside look at eating brazilian style. >> tim, i hope you have had breakfast, if you didn't you are going to really hungry after this. it is not what you are eating, it's how. meet jean boschetti, he knows what authentic brazilian cooking is all about. >> when we are celebrating something, birthday, anniversary come back from the church in the morning, we set up a fire pit and we cook around the fire. what used to be outdoor fire pits is now meat skewered and turning slowly in an industrial sized oven. >> white wine and mint and lamb chop. here at fogo de ch?o in rio de janeiro. he remembers his grandmother setting out plates of veggies and salads, and his grandfather bringing the variety of meats

my grandson likes the chicken, my granddaugher likes the lamb so that is why i think it becomes all the variety. actually all the brazilians they love meat. rodrigo deborba lives in rio. he says he grew up eating this way too. now he is raising his daughter with this same style of cooking and eating. when dining they say think of it like a car engine, first gear, your light foods salads and so on, second gear starches, and the third gear the all important meat. most of the people, yes, you start with the greens just so you feel less guilty. but not for me. we are told this style of eating becomes a family affair. from youngest to oldest, everyone enjoys different plates but enjoys it all together. life is good here in brazil and that is the message they want to spread to the west of the world. live at the summer olympic games in rio, i'm nigel robertson.

something that we are liking in the forecast, rain. we need the rain. there is a plus and a little down side to the forecast, plus side, we need the rain. we could soem up an inch or two easily. the down side, it could be quick hitting showers and storms and dumping torrential rains in a short time the totals could top two inches in a few of the pockets across the area. it is a sticky one out there. a little fog hanging on the east side. a little bit of day light cutting through. 77 degrees in the city. that dew point is really sticky out there. temperatures to start off

waukesha. mainly because a lot of clouds around. we had a few showers moving through overnight. just a couple of sprinkles out there right now. let's talk about the rain over the next 24 hours. sh the afternoon. when you see the red or the darker purples that is heavy rain and we have the concern for maybe some ponding on the roadways, localized street flooding with the storms moving through, again they are beneficial rains for us here in southeast wisconsin. notice most of the rain is out of here by 7:00 a.m. on saturday and if we see severe rain, the main street is with the flash flooding.
